I first saw Monmouth coffee shop in Borough Market but never went in due to the very long queues outside. I was very interested, what is so special about them? Actually, they started roasting coffee almost 50 years ago and are still one of the most famous local coffee company in London.
But I became a fan because of a different situation. There are three small local coffee shops in my area, and one of them I really like. On one visit, I noticed that they made coffee using Monmouth beans.
“Wait,” I thought, “I’ve heard of this brand, is it the same brand that owns a popular place at Borough Market?”. Yes, it was them.
After that I visited their Monmouth Street branch for the first time and there was a line too. The cafe is small but cozy, with several tables inside and outside. They serve coffee as well as sweets.
But what I really like about them is that the coffee is not served in disposable cups, in the cafe you can drink from regular cups or pay a deposit for a reusable cup and just return it next time. Of course, you can bring your own reusable cup, which I'm starting to do everywhere now because I like the idea of not adding unnecessary waste.
